Errol Nel, the headmaster, says that the school wants to put on a show that will hopefully result in the athletes wanting to come back to George every time. "We are upgrading the shower facilities using our plumbing workshop to do the work. The painting workshop is repainting the buildings so that they look crisp and clean. The pavilion is being refurbished by the welding department."
Nel realises that it will be a challenge to complete all the upgrades that the school has earmarked. "Olympia is cash strapped as we serve a poor section of the community. Using our own pupils, besides saving money, has the added advantage that the work will count towards their practical training."
The running track, which was overgrown with alien vegetation, is being hacked out and prepared by the mixed farming pupils under the strict supervision of the staff.
Nel is adamant that this event will leave a lasting legacy that the school will enjoy for years to come.
