GEORGE NEWS - Eden Softball hosted a very successful Human Rights Festival on Monday 21 March at Heatherlands High School.
The festival focused on the rights of women in sport and how women can excel and develop themselves through sport.
The sports representative, Danelle Frans, addressed the athletes on woman development in sport and how they can use sport as a vehicle to reach their goals and dreams. She said that women already have to face many challenges, but the challenges do not define who we are or where we come from. Women in sport have the right to be heard, to be seen and to be considered in leadership roles. She encouraged women to "keep dreaming and reach for the stars".
Altogether seven clubs from four municipal areas were represented, namely George (Eagles, Hawks and Panthers), Knynsa ( Hornets), Oudtshoorn (Benjamin's) and Mossel Bay (Admirals and Mustangs).
Eden Softball Association in partnership with various stakeholders, in particular Eden Baseball Federation, has been actively growing softball in the district. Eden has delivered four provincial players and a host of male and female high-performance athletes.
The district boasts three u.15 male players, Peter-John Crowley, Daniel Damons and Keenen Booysen, as well as a Western Cape assistant coach, Wilzano Hendricks, representing the province in the National School Sport Championship.
Tracey Meyer made the WC u.17 team and Fozia Philander has been selected as team manager.
Anyone, young and old, male or female, who is interested in softball is invited to make contact with Eden Softball Association. For more information, please contact the secretary, Fozia Philander, at fozia.philander@gmail.com, or chairperson Tayron Samson at tayron61@gmail.com.
