GEORGE SPORT NEWS - George Bowling Club's inaugural Elma Davis Trips tournament was a great success with 36 teams from across the country competing on Saturday and Sunday, 16 and 17 April.
Previous national and provincial players, as well as current players who knew Davis, took part in the tournament in honour of all her achievements during her bowling career from 2011 to 2019.
Davis won 10 gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals and represented SA at the world championships in New Zealand and the Commonwealth Games in Australia.
This tournament was held in memory of Davis who died on 14 April 2019 aged 51 during an apparent murder suicide perpetrated by her husband, Trevor, at their home in Mossel Bay.
She will be remembered as a soft-spoken person, but a fierce competitor who touched the lives of everyone around her.

"She was an incredibly skillful member of the Proteas team for many years, taking the team forward by mostly playing in the Skips position," said the president of Bowls SA, Heather Boucher, about Davis. "Her accolades are too vast to mention, however, she was known as one of the best that South Africa ever produced. Her name was always in the top echelon and feared by most opponents."
