GOLF NEWS - The death of golf industry legend Ingrid Diesel in 2018 came as a shock to the South African golfing community. Ingrid passed away after a battle with breast cancer.
She was a significant business figure in the South African golf industry, being CEO of Fancourt Hotel and Country Club Resort for 18 years till 2009, and subsequently managing her own Golf Consulting and Events company until 2018.
She loved the game of golf, and was a finalist in South Africa's Businesswoman of the Year Award during her time at Fancourt.
She also served on the board of the Ernie Els Foundation and was instrumental in bringing the 2003 Presidents Cup to South Africa. Throughout her career Diesel maintained a social conscience, working closely with organisations such as Child Welfare and Sports Legends Trust, and founding the Sister Sister charity, providing dignity to girls at school.
Ingrid Diesel Scholarship for Girls
As part of the legacy that Ingrid has left behind, her three daughters, Shelley, Debbi and Pippa with the support of Diesel's partner Barry Richards and her family, have established the Ingrid Diesel Scholarship for Girls. The scholarship will be provided to selected girls from a disadvantaged background from the Garden Route community, to empower and enable them to receive a good education, take part in sports, receive mentorship and to thrive beyond what they have dreamt.
This project is a celebration of Ingrid's life, her dedication to her family and the contribution she made to the local community.
To launch the charity, Pezula Hotel and Golf Resort will be hosting the Ingrid Diesel Ladies Trophy event on 7 and 8 August.
Proceeds will go to the scholarship fund and numerous other events will be planned going forward.
