It is a shot that can get one out of trouble and is particularly effective when hitting into the wind so try out the following when next on the golf course or driving range and see what works best for you.
The first is to move the ball position from its basic position...

...to back in your stance.

The change in ball position will lower the ball flight but can lead to inaccuracy.
Secondly, a very effective method is to grip the club shorter...

... which effectively makes the shaft stiffer and will put less spin on the ball thereby reducing the height of the ball flight.
My personal method when playing into the wind is to take more club and hit the ball softer, less clubhead speed reduces the spin imparted on the ball which stops the ball climbing into the wind.
Control of the ball flight allows for distance control which is what all golfers are after when playing a shot to the flag. Using one of the methods above or a combination of them will help you control the ball into the wind and keep you in play!
