Four teams: SA Kids Gauteng, FS/NC, SA Kids KZN and Southern Cape Golf Academy, competed in the event, which was played at the Bloemfontein Golf Club (18 hole) and Schoemanpark Golf Club (18 hole). The overall winners of the tournament was SA kids Gauteng.
The top two players from the Southern Cape were Michael Nortje, who finished 14th, and Kyle Conradie, who took 16th position.
The Southern Cape kids had never played in a tournament on a 18 hole course before and they had never played more than nine holes at a time, so the experienced gained was priceless.
Team Manager Roelof Roeloffze said the boys really achieved what they wanted from the tournament and that was to get exposure, experience other courses, make new friends and have as much as possible fun.
"On behalf of the SCGA we would like to thank all the parents and sponsors that made a contribution to make this experience possible," he said.
The SCGA offers kids between five and 12 years the opportunity to play age appropriate tournaments and courses and improve their golfing knowledge. They offer kids so much more than just golf lessons - they learn the rules of golf, etiquette, scoring and get on-course experience.
Parents who would like to find out if their young child would like golf as a sport are advised to let them join the academy's Try Golf Programme for children between the ages of 5-8.
The kids get three free lessons to experience golf and learn the basics of the swing. Then they can decide if they want to continue with the game.
