FOOTBALL NEWS - The newly promoted Lawaaikamp outfit Simunye FC failed to impress their supporters after losing maximum points at home. The experienced Eastern City team defeated Simunye 3-2 on Sunday afternoon, 17 November, at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
The five goals were scored by Nyameko Ndwebisa (2) and Phillip Quinton for Eastern City and Mario "Ballack" Nomdoe and Nkosiyethe Seyibokwe for Simunye. Simunye scored the first goal of the game within 15 minutes, but failed to hold on to their lead.
The home side started slow, building their attack from the back with Hussen "Malume" Jumapili marshalling the back line. Both teams were looking disciplined on the ball. Eastern City received the first free kick but they lost possession.
Sesethu Jack of Simunye sent the ball from the centre of the field to the right side and Gqowa delivered a cross inside the box, but striker Siyabonga "Mpumlo" Miggels kicked over the cross bar.
Nomdoe of Simunye scored a soft goal after City's goalkeeper failed to control the ball. City stayed on the attack and equalised, using the pace of Phillip Quinton on the right side. Simunye players Akhona "Teko" Nokepeyi, Siwaphiwo Ndumiso and Akhona "Teko" Nokepeyi attempted to shoot goals but failed.
A long-range strike by Mkhetho Lwazi of Eastern City was denied by Simunye goalkeeper Masonwabe Fuba, forcing a corner kick for City. Ntshuca Ayabonga of City missed the opportunity, shooting over the cross bar. Eastern City right winger Quinton Phillip received a cross from the left side of the field and scored, making it 2-1. With City's players staying on the attack, Nyameko "Nyathi" Ndwebisa scored the third goal with a long-range strike just outside the box, making it 3-0. The first forty-five minutes of the game ended with the score board reading 3-1, Eastern City leading.
The second half started with both teams trying to play the ball on the ground. Nomdoe of Simunye missed the target after he received a beautiful ball played in by Siwaphiwo Ndumiso.
Lwazi Mkhetho of City tried his luck but his long-range shot went wide. A powerful header by Simunye's Siyabulela "Zane" Kosi was well saved by Mbaxa Anoxolo, City's goalkeeper. Anoxolo also made an acrobatic save blocking Monde Phendukwana's clear-cut chance.
Simunye launched a strong attack from the centre of the field and Nkosiyethu Seyibokwe scored their second goal to make it 3-2. Simunye's players were throwing everything into the attack during the dying moments of the game, using the strength of Siyabonga "Mpumlo" Miggels to unlock City's back line, but it was too late for them to catch up the score and the exciting Regional League game ended 3-2.
