CRICKET NEWS - Two players from the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers women's team, Asakhe Nyovane and Annerie Dercksen, were selected to join the Cricket South Africa National Women's Emerging Academy from early May till the end of July.
According to the director of Cricket SA, Enoch Nkwe, the changing landscape of international cricket coupled with the 2027 vision has facilitated a rethink and rebranding of the classic 'National Academy' structure to speak to the immediate and longer-term needs of the Proteas Men's and Women's cricket teams.
The CSA National Academy is therefore being rebranded as the CSA Emerging Academy and is an attempt to close the gap between domestic and international cricket by fast tracking the development of a small group of identified players during a highly focused 3-month (men)/2-month (women) period.
In this time they will zone in on personalised technical and tactical work that is supported by a strong medical, science, and technology-based high performance programme.
During their time at the Academy, the players will be exposed to coaching by CSA staff, Proteas Playing Philosophy, performance psychology, performance nutrition, strength and conditioning, visual screening and training, recovery sessions, media training, financial well-being, sports law and drug-free sports education.
