GEORGE NEWS - With nearly 200 entries, athletes from the Eden, Cape Winelands, and Cape Metro Districts gathered at Glenwood House School on 15 and 16 June for the 2024 Western Cape Biathle and Triathle Championships. The event, hosted by the Eden Modern Pentathlon Association, showcased remarkable talent and exhilarating performances.
Biathle, consisting of a 'run-swim-run' format, and triathle, which features a 'shoot-swim-run' sequence, are integral components of the evolving disciplines within the Modern Pentathlon, an established Olympic sport.
This action-packed two-day competition brought immense excitement to George, with athletes delivering world-class performances.
The event highlighted the high standards of the competitors, many of whom achieved personal bests and met the South African qualifying times over the weekend.
"We are incredibly proud of all the athletes who competed in the Western Cape Championships," said Eden Modern Pentathlon's (MPA) Mariska Haasbroek.
"Their dedication and achievements are truly commendable. We eagerly anticipate the 2024 South African Biathle and Triathle Championships in East London on 9 and 10 August, and we wish our athletes all the best in representing the Western Cape Province at the national event.
"This will also serve as a qualifying event for the World Championships in Egypt later this year."
