NATIONAL NEWS - A 45-year-old tavern owner is fighting for his life in hospital after he was shot multiple times during a shebeen robbery in Rayton, Gauteng.
His wife was shot in the leg by three armed men.
Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said the man was in a critical condition after he suffered multiple gunshot wounds in a shooting incident at a tavern in Rayton, east of Pretoria on Friday night around 21:40.
“On arrival on the scene two patients, a male believed to be approximately 40-years-old, as well as an elderly female, were found to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds, with the man in a critical condition,” he said.
“Advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilise him before both patients were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further definitive care.”
Cullinan police spokesperson Constable Connie Moganedi said it was alleged that three males approached the shebeen and started shooting from outside the building, then proceeded inside and ordered about 50 patrons to lie down.
“The 45-year-old owner was shot multiple times in the upper body and his wife was shot in the leg,” she said.
Moganedi said the suspects took cellphones, liquor and an undisclosed amount of cash.
“Cullinan SAPS are pleading for information following the robbery at a local shebeen,” Moganedi said.
