NATIONAL NEWS - The MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell, said it is ‘heartening’ to see dam levels increasing but it does not mean the drought is over.
“Most major dams in the Western Cape are showing slight increases,” said Bredell.
He gave some of the figures of the different dams in the Western Cape, which have shown slight improvements. The Voëlvlei Dam (improved from 14.2 to 16.6% full this week), the Theewaterskloof Dam (went from 11.8 to 14.7% full this week) and the Bergriver Dam (improved from 37% to 42% full this week).
Cape Town has been experiencing a lot of rainfall this week after the South African Weather Services issued a warning of localised flooding due to the cold front that hit the province.
The system brought between 20 – 30mm of rain to the Cape Metropole, southern Cape Winelands and western Overberg. Up to 50mm of water was expected over mountainous areas throughout Monday into Tuesday morning.
