NATIONAL NEWS - In his inauguration speech at the Union Buildings, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the electorate have spoken and voters want political parties to work together to create a better society.
In an inspiring speech Ramaphosa said he will work with anyone who is willing to contribute to overcome the challenges faced by the country and its people.
The President said today is no ordinary day. “It is a moment to choose moving forward or risk losing everything.” He said the Freedom Charter must become a reality for all.
Ramaphosa said voters have been vocal in their criticism and people are clear in what they want.
“We must be brave and we must be bold. It is a new time that heralds courage… We must reject any attempt to turn us against each other.”
He assured the world that those who wish to turn South Africans against each other will fail. “…because democracy lives within us...."
“Today I make the solemn commitment to be the president of all South Africans and not just of some South Africans."
He said we are united as South Africans and full of hope. "God bless South Africa and protect its people.”
He repeated the blessing in various indigenous languages, including Afrikaans.
Ramaphosa also referred to climate change and said that the government will respond to the challenges in the interest of future generations.
