Fresh from unveiling Toyota Racing Development tweaked versions of the Camry (white) and Avalon (red) at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week, the automaker’s North American Group Vice President and General Manager, Jack Hollis, said it will be beneficial to make TRD models available across the Toyota range regardless of it being a car, SUV or pick-up.
“I love the TRD brand, I love what Toyota Racing Development does, and I like learning from our motorports teams and putting it into our cars. And if we can bring it to every car and SUV and every truck, I think we should,” Hollis told AutoGuide.
Hinting that the new Corolla, which bowed in sedan guise in the City of Angels, could be next in-line to receive the TRD treatment, Hollis also stated that the brand is looking into the possibility of making all-wheel drive available across its entire model line-up, with the same likely to apply to TRD models.
With the exception of its pick-up and SUV range in North America, and after unveiling the all-wheel drive Prius in Los Angeles, only the Sienna MPV comes with the option of all-wheel drive with the rest of Toyota’s models, bar the GT86, being front-wheel drive.
The latest report surrounding a hot Corolla comes after Auto Express alleged back in October that a GRMN model is in development with a rumoured hybrid drivetrain, although such a model is only expected to arrive in 2020.
