Penned by renowned designer Peter Schreyer using the 2011 GT Concept as inspiration, the Stinger will only be available in top spec GT guise, meaning it will pack a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 developing 272 kW and 510 Nm of torque, with the amount of twist going through the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Aided by a mechanical limited-slip differential, the Stinger will complete the 0-100 km/h dash in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 270 km/h. In addition to its grunt, the Stinger boasts a marque first damper control system known as Dynamic Stability Damping Control, which allows the driver to adjust the suspension and the steering from a choice of five modes; Eco, Comfort, Sport, Smart and Personal.
In keeping with its flagship status, standard equipment in the GT consists of an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and voice recognition, wireless smartphone charging pad, projector-type, bending bi-functional LED headlights, black or burgundy nappa electric leather seats with the fronts being heated and ventilated, electric tailgate, a 15-speaker, 720-watt Harman Kardon sound system, Heads-Up Display, sunroof with power shade and dual automatic air-conditioning.
Riding on 19-inch alloy wheels hiding ventilated Brembo brake calipers utilising a four-piston setup at the front and two at the rear, driver assistance system includes front and rear Park Distance Control, Around View Monitor, Blind Spot Detection, seven airbags and traction control.
Available in a choice of nine metallic colours; Ceramic Silver, Sunset Yellow, Hi Chroma Red, Snow White Pearl, Silky Silver, Aurora Black Pearl, Deep Chroma Blue, Micro Blue and Panthera Metal, the Stinger will be sold in limited numbers and only through a dedicated Kia South Africa approved website, www.kiastinger.co.za, rather than through a dealership.
A five year / unlimited km warranty and five year / 90 000 km maintenance plan forms part of the Stinger GT’s asking price of R859 995.
