ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Young people interested in fashion, modelling, photography and wider creative industries can explore new career opportunities at the second Garden Route Fashion and Creative Expo, hosted by Reflekt Model Management and Reflekt Development Division NPC.
Running till 16 October, the expo aims to showcase local talent, develop practical skills and connect aspiring creatives with industry professionals.
Founded by Linda and Danie Greyling, Reflekt has worked in the Garden Route's fashion and creative industries for more than a decade.
Through its development division, the organisation focuses on youth empowerment, skills development, entrepreneurship and access to opportunities in the creative economy.
The expo is presented in partnership with the Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion Design, the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, the Department of Social Development, George Municipality and other industry stakeholders.
The event also includes a series of free skills development programmes for young people aged 12 to 26. Sessions will run from 30 September to 16 October at the George Museum and Reflekt Division in Mossel Bay.
Topics include photography, modelling and the fashion industry, styling and wardrobe planning, fashion trend forecasting, visual communication, upcycled knits, basic crochet, creative entrepreneurship and future career opportunities in fashion.
The programmes are intended to give participants practical experience and information into possible pathways to further study, employment and entrepreneurship.
The partnership with the Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion Design also aims to give emerging designers opportunities to showcase their work and engage with professionals.
All skills development sessions are free, but places are limited and pre-registration is required.
Young people can register online here.
The expo forms part of a broader initiative to strengthen the Garden Route's creative economy by bringing together education, government, industry and communities to support emerging talent and create opportunities for young people.
