Posted on Instagram at an alleged model preview event in Miami on Tuesday evening (January eight) by Stan Rudman, whose profile states that he contributes to the local Miami Herald, the updated Seven, which will likely retain the G11 internal moniker, takes heavily after the X7 with the same expansive kidney grille, a more pronounced front bumper with wider side vents, a new bonnet, slim LED headlights and at the rear, oval tipped dual exhaust outlets and an overall facia design similar to that of the 5-series. No image of the interior was however taken.
Despite referring to the pictured example as a 750i, the nomenclature on the bootlid identifies the model as the 745e, which will reportedly produce as much as 298kW thanks to a new battery combined with the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine set to be carried over from the outgoing 740e. According to a report from Britain’s Autocar, the setup will allegedly translate to an all-electric range of around 50km.
Aside from the 745e, other models will come powered by the same range of petrol and diesel engines as the X7 and possibly the 8-series, though the future of the flagship M760Li xDrive remains unknown amidst conflicting reports that it will continue despite the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) emissions regulations implemented in September last year.
Based on current speculation, the 7-series is due to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, but expect more details to emerge before then.
