According to L’Automobile magazine, and based on previous speculation, the Kadjar will drop the 96kW 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and instead come equipped with a less powerful version of the all-new 1.3-litre four-pot bound for the next Clio, and currently used by Mercedes-Benz in the new A-class.
It will reportedly produce 103kW/240Nm, the same as the Scenic sold in Europe, and conform to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) emissions regulations which the 1.2 does not. At present, the only other petrol offering displaces the same 1 332 cc’s, but with an output of 118kW/270Nm. The publication also alleges that the new engine would result in a price increase of €700 (R11 808), lifting the base Life model’s sticker from €24 900 (R420 051) to €25 600 (R431 860)
On the diesel front, the long-serving 1.5 dCi will adopt the Blue dCi moniker and produce 85kW instead of the current 80kW, while the 96kW 1.6 will fall away and make way for a brand-new 1.7 rumoured to produce 110kW. For the base 1.5, pricing has also been tweaked and rises by €500 (R8 434) to €27 500 (R463 912).
At present though, it remains to be seen whether the facelifted Kadjar will become in South Africa given alleged recent supply problems, and the possibility of the Koleos, which is also set to undergo a facelift, returning as its replacement.
