Riding on the same PSA EMP2 platform as the Peugeot 3008, and slated to officially debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the 4 477 mm long Grandland X will kick-off at €23 700 (R345 068) with power coming from the familiar Peugeot-sourced 96 kW / 230 Nm 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine.
On diesel side, the PSA 1.6-litre BlueHDI mill develops 88 kW and 300 Nm, with pricing from €26 500 (R386 039). A six-speed manual gearbox is standard fare on both with a six-speed automatic optional. Although previous reports have suggested the Grandland X could be offered with four-wheel drive, it will remain front-wheel drive for now with more engine options to follow in due course.
In terms of driver assistance systems, the Grandland X will be offered with items such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Pedestrian Detection, Driver Drowsiness Alert, Automatic Braking, Advanced Park Assist, Surround View Camera system, Adaptive Forward Lighting and five mode Grip Control system depending on the trim level selected.
With a total luggage capacity of 514-litres, or 1 652-litres with the rear seats folded down, equipment levels in the Grandland X consist of Opel's latest Intellilink infotainment system incorporating Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite navigation, OnStar and Wi-Fi, wireless smartphone charger, heated steering wheel and front seats, kick-motion opening tailgate, AGR-certified seats, optional panoramic roof and a premium eight-speaker Denon sound system.
More details are expected to be announced closer to its Frankfurt launch.
