Despite the recent unveiling of the Corsa GSI in Europe and the United Kingdom, the much loved performance moniker is unlikely to return to South Africa soon given the Sport’s similar engine outputs and three-door only bodystyle, albeit with a reduction in price.
Powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor developing 110kW/220Nm, the Sport will get from 0-100km/h in 9.6 seconds and top out at 204km/h, with drive going to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
Standard specification has also been kept unchanged with noteworthy items being the seven-inch touchscreen Intellilink infotainment system, 17-inch dark titanium alloy wheels, a OPC derived flat bottom steering wheel, cornering, auto on/off bi-xenon headlights, Moonray Sport black leather seats, Blind Spot Assist, rain sense wipers, Park Assist and Hill Start Assist.
As mentioned, Opel has upped the Sport’s value factor by slashing the sticker price from R289 316 to R268 320, making it not only R20 996 cheaper for the month, but only R11 891 more than the range topping regular Corsa 1.0T Enjoy. Included in the reduced price is a five year/120 000km warranty and three year/60 000km service plan.
