The latest model to ride on Benz’s MFA2 front-wheel drive platform, the CLA once again slots in above the A-class hatch and sedan with a coupe-like look derived from the CLS, with an overall length of 4 688mm, width of 1 830mm and height of 1 439mm.
Boasting front and rear tracks widened by 63mm and 55m respectively with a 30mm uptake in wheelbase, a 44mm increase in overall length, a 53mm gain in width and sitting two millimetres lower, the CLA carries over from its predecessor by incorporating a front end design similar to the A-class, while the rear from the C-pillar back takes after the CLS as per the automaker’s Sensual Purity styling language.
The A-class influences continue inside where the CLA comes as standard with the new MBUX infotainment system and option of the dual 10.25-inch displays, as well as the so-called Energising Package that adjusts features such as the climate control, seats and the radio accordingly to suit to driver’s mood and preference.
Available with a choice of wheel sizes ranging from 16 to 19-inches and featuring a multi-link rear axle that can be decoupled as well as optional Active Adaptive Damping, the CLA’s range of driver assistance and safety systems includes Active Distance Assist Distronic as part of the optional Driving Assistance Package that also adds Active Lane Change Assist and Active Emergency Stop Assist, Active Brake Assist that comes fitted as standard, Pre-Safe Plus and Active Lane Keeping Assist fitted as standard across the range.
Shown in Las Vegas in 250 guise, power comes from the same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the A-class, which produces 165kW/350Nm and is send to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. A wider of range of models, including more petrol and diesel derivatives as well as the AMG 35 and 45, will be added in due course.
No word on local availability has yet been made, although expect the CLA to debut some months after its international premiere.
