GEORGE NEWS - Local endurance athlete Thembi Sojola continues to soldier on through challenging conditions as he works towards his goal of completing three 'Everests', a total elevation gain of 26 400 metres, in aid of George Child and Family Welfare.
According to Gaylen Slabbers’ latest update, conditions on the trail have deteriorated significantly and the route is wet, cold and muddy. The plan has had to be adjusted several times, but Sojola remains determined.
He currently has approximately 300 metres of elevation left to complete his second Everest, with the milestone expected to be reached this afternoon.
The goal remains three Everests, although safety is becoming an increasingly important consideration given the deteriorating trail conditions. Sojola will make that call together with his support team from The Sports Performance Hub.
His dedicated support crew have been alongside him from the very first step, working through the mud and rain with very little sleep.
