Based on information released on the automaker’s website, the new W177 A-class will initially be offered in a choice of two models; the A200 powered by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance co-developed 1.3-litre turbo-petrol that produces 120kW/250Nm and the 165kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo in the A250 Sport.
While the latter is offered in other markets with 4Matic all-wheel drive, local models will be front-wheel driven only and fitted as standard with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Performance-wise, the A200 will complete the 0-100km/h dash in eight seconds and reach a top speed of 225km/h, while the A250 takes 6.2 seconds before topping out at 250km/h.
In terms of equipment, the A200 will comes fitted with Benz’s seven-inch MBUX infotainment system, black cloth seats, 16-inch alloy wheels, the Style pack made-up of Artico black cloth seats, the Light and Sight pack, black roof-liner, Active Brake Assist, cruise control and a multi-function steering wheel with shift paddles.
Notable items on the A250 Sport are 18-inch alloy wheels, the AMG styling pack made up of a model specific bodykit, sport seats trimmed in black Artico/Dinamica micro-fibres and AMG floor mats, black or grey roof-liner, Adaptive High Beam Assist with Performance LED headlights, lowered comfort suspension and Nappa leather sports steering wheel.
Pricing meanwhile starts at R499 000 for the A200 and at for R593 300 for the A250 Sport. An extensive list of options is also available, which can be viewed on the A-class configurator.
