Posted by BMW online forum bimmerpost.com, the imposing X7 iPerformance takes a number of styling cues from the recently shown X2 and 8-series concept, with slim LED headlights, oversized metallic kidney grille, upright air intakes, tapering bonnet, shaved door handles, thin mirrors and silver sills derived from the 7-series.
At the rear, the wraparound LED lights feature a thin silver strip at the top, while the bumper also incorporates air intakes on the sides with the flanges also finished in silver. An expansive panoramic roof, silver roof rails and 23-inch light alloy wheels complete the exterior.
Expected to compete against the Mercedes-Benz GLS and Range Rover, the X7 iPerformance's interior adopts a futuristic minimalist design with a fully digital instrument cluster and a new infotainment display that blends to create a single appearance, floating iDrive dial on the new centre console with touchpad like buttons, lashings of chrome, new gear lever, blue mood lighting and seating for six.
As per the eDrive badges on the D-pillar, the X7 iPerformance comes equipped with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain likely the same as the 740e and X5 xDrive 40e iPerformance, which combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 83 kW electric motor for a total system output of 240 kW and 500 Nm of torque.
Production models are however likely to mirror the engine options offered by the X5, which includes a 3.0-litre TwinPower straight-six petrol, a 4.4-litre TwinPower V8 and a 3.0-litre straight-six turbodiesel with either single or twin-turbocharging. The familiar ZF-sourced eight-speed Steptronic is expected to be the only transmission offered.
BMW is due to introduce the production X7 either next year or in early 2019.
