Based on the standard 5.0-litre supercharged V8 Range Rover but with three doors like the original and carrying a price tag of £240 000 (R4 213 383), Britain’s Autocar claims that the cancellation comes as a result of JLR opting instead to divert its resources on the next generation Defender and Discovery Sport.
“We have taken the difficult decision to inform our customers that the Range Rover SV Coupé will not proceed into production. Instead, Land Rover is focusing its resources and investment on the next generation of world-class products,” the publication quoted a statement from the automaker as saying.
“With exciting plans for electrification, enhanced craftsmanship, innovation and technology we are working to ensure that we continue to offer our customers a choice of world leading SUVs”.
The result of JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO), the SV Coupe would have seen a limited production run of 999 units worldwide, with Land Rover at the time of its launch in Geneva, describing it as “the world's first full-size luxury SUV coupe”.
