Based on the 99 kW 500 Abarth, the Ares still features the standard issue 1.4-litre petrol engine, but receives new pistons, exhaust valves, a dedicated gearbox cooler connecting rods, turbocharger, heavy duty clutch, flywheel and reinforced gearbox casing, as well as KW Clubsport suspension, perforated brake pads and 18-inch alloy wheels to help it cope with a reported 404 horsepower (302 kW) and 445 Nm of torque.
Limited to just five units, all equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox, the Ares will reportedly go from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and, thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre along with a curb weight of 977 kg, on to a top speed of 288 km/h.
Although a wide range of other accessories can still be specified, pricing for the Pogea conversion, including the base vehicle, starts at €58 950 (R795 001), more than a price of a Porsche 718 Cayman in Germany and R351 551 more than the South African-spec Abarth 595 Competizione.
