Limited to just 420 units, the Argentinian built GR Sport uses the top-spec SRX trim level as a base, and adds Gazoo Racing’s white, black and red graphics displayed against a choice of three colours; Pearl White, Black Mica and Metallic Red, matte black mirror caps, side steps and sports bar, black wheel arch extensions, a black roof and bonnet, GR badges on the tailgate and doors, diamond cut 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber and a black honeycomb grille.
Equipped with new dampers and stiffer suspension, as well as retuned power steering, the GR Sport’s interior adjustments are more minor than those of the exterior, and consists of black leather seats with GR embossed headrests, a perforated leather steering wheel, a GR branded starter button, red stitching, GR floor mats, commemorative GR number plaque at the base of the gear lever and special white backlighting for the instrument cluster.
No change has however taken place underneath the bonnet, where the GR Sport retains the SRX’s 2.8 GD-6 turbodiesel engine that produces 130kW/450Nm, the latter output signifying the fitment of the six-speed automatic gearbox. Like the standard Hilux, the GR Sport comes with selectable four-wheel drive and a low range gearbox.
Priced at R $206 990 (R737 243), the GR Sport commands an R $10 000 (R35 617) increase over the SRX, but as previously indicated, don’t expect it to arrive in South Africa anytime soon.
