Based on the images published by Malaysian website paultan.org though, the automaker is gearing the Triton up for a facelift with the camouflaged prototype spotted in South Australia wearing the same Dynamic Shield front facia as the Eclipse Cross, Pajero Sport and Asian market Xpander MPV.
Unlike the former though, the Triton will receive the same thin headlights and integrated LEDs as the Pajero Sport and Xpander, as well as the oversized fog light bezels and, based on the image, a single horizontal grille slat. No rear end or interior images have emerged.
Speculation is that the Triton will continue unchanged in the engine department, thus retaining the 133 kW / 430 Nm 2.4-litre DI-D turbodiesel engine mated to either the six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox.
An additional theory is that the latter ‘box could make way for the same eight-speed auto used on the Pajero Sport to rival the Volkswagen Amarok’s similar ratio Tiptronic, although this is purely speculative and yet to be confirmed.
No word on when the facelifted Triton would be revealed as yet been made.
