First shown back in February and due to arrive on US dealership floors during the fourth quarter of this year, the SRT comes fitted with a unique bodykit, Bilstein adaptive dampers, stiffer springs all around, Brembo brake calipers, functional bonnet scoop, a Charger SRT derived active exhaust and black 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion Verde rubber.
Up front, the Durango SRT comes powered by the same 6.4-litre Hemi V8 as the Charger SRT, tuned to produce 475 horsepower (354 kW) and 637 Nm of torque. Connected to a sports optimised eight-speed TorqueFlight automatic gearbox with drive going to all four wheels, FCA claims the SRT will complete the benchmark 0-60 mph (96 km/h) sprint in 4.4 seconds and the standing quarter mile in 12.9 seconds.
In addition to its substantial power and torque gains over to the regular Durango 5.7 Citadel, the SRT also receives a seven-mode (Auto, Sport, Track, Snow, Tow, Valet and Eco) drive selector that adjusts the ride, gearbox, throttle, with a reduction in shift times by as much as 50% in Sport mode. A Launch Control function is also standard with Dodge claiming that as much as 70% of the available power can be transferred to the rear wheels only when in Track mode.
Inside, the Durango SRT features a flat-bottom leather trimmed sports steering wheel, SRT shift paddles and floor mats, a seven-inch TFT instrument cluster, nine-speaker Beats sound system, 8.4-inch UConnect infotainment system, suede or optional carbon fibre inserts and SRT embossed sport seats with red stitching.
Priced at $64 090 (R863 035), the Durango SRT is sadly not expected to became available in South Africa anytime soon at it will be made in left-hand-drive only.
