GEORGE NEWS - It is with deep sadness that York High School mourns the passing away of one of its longest serving teachers, Clive Biggs, who died as a result of a sudden heart attack on Tuesday 18 July.
Biggs (70) dedicated his life to teaching. He was a maths teacher at York High School for more than 30 years and head of rugby for many of those years.
His passion for rugby had him coaching in his early years and more recently he served on the SWD High Schools' rugby executive. In the July holidays he attended the Grant Khomo u.16 rugby week at Grey College in Bloemfontein.
Biggs was a deeply religious man. His primary degree was in theology. He was also an accomplished actor and singer who featured in a number of George community musicals.
York High headmaster Francois Moll said, "Tributes have been pouring in from colleagues, friends and past pupils, describing him as 'good-humoured, enthusiastic, patient and kind-hearted' and a true gentleman. He was a great inspiration to many of the pupils he taught."
A memorial service will be held at York High School on Friday 28 July at 08:00. All are welcome to attend.
