GEORGE NEWS - Libraries in George invite residents to take part in a special week of activities – and find out that reading is a fun way to spend leisure time. They hope to celebrate National Book Week, from 7 to 13 September, introducing and reinforcing the joys of reading to the public.
While National Book Week’s theme is Books Beyond Words, this year’s programme goes beyond physical barriers too, promoting reading and literacy via online storytelling, virtual reading programmes and online book discussions (by arrangement).
Other specialities for the week include book displays, book donations and an activity called “Pick a book - pick success”.
Reading is great fun. But many people don’t realise that you can enter a whole new world through reading – and reduce the stress of real life! Of course, it also expands your vocabulary and improves your focus and concentration.
Plus, it provides intellectual and mental stimulation and expands your general knowledge.
During National Book Week, George Library Services want to increase awareness and access to books. Readers will be introduced to local authors, books and indigenous languages.
With a large part of the programme taking place online, it is also the ideal platform to increase social media awareness.
Contact a library near you to find out what is on offer.
Regrettably, Pacaltsdorp and Thembalethu libraries are closed until further notice and will not take part in Book Week.
