This new school, which cost a total of R23,6-million, forms part of the Western Cape Education Department's (WCED) new infrastructure plan for the 2013/14-2015/16 year period which WCED Minister Donald Grant announced during September 2012.
This Pacaltsdorp school has a rich historical background dating back to 1832 when William Anderson's two daughters started Pacaltsdorp's first crèche. "The present school was started in 1837 and fell under the United Congregational Church of South Africa," explained Ronald Scholtz, Pacaltsdorp Primary School principal.
The school became a government school on its present premises during 1973. According to Scholtz, two further primary schools, namely, Dellville Park Primary and Laerskool New Dawn Park developed out of Pacaltsdorp Primary School.
Scholtz received the keys to the new buildings on Friday and told excited attendees of the first assembly on Monday: "The community of Pacaltsdorp can be proud of this new school. Parents, learners, this is your school. Look after this building. Be proud and protect the school for generations to come."
The date for the official opening of Pacaltsdorp Primary School has not yet been announced.
