Update
GEORGE NEWS - George Mayor Melvin Naik and Municipal Manager Trevor Botha co-signed the memorandum that was handed over to them this morning. Protesters, who are now making their way down York Street, made certain demands pertaining to housing, transport and the state of the recently upgraded Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Thembalethu.
They have given Naik and Botha 72 hours to respond in writing, whereafter they demanded a meeting with the various authorities.
The next memorandum will be handed over to the provincial traffic chief, Quinton Williams.
GO GEORGE halted
With the march now moving towards Pacaltsdorp, the George Municipality announced that all bus services to and from Pacaltsdorp have been suspended as from 11:50. Buses that are currently in Pacaltsdorp will remain there and not return to town.
Passengers all over the system are warned to expect a delay of up to two hours.
GO GEORGE will return services to normal as soon as possible.
