GEORGE NEWS - Two men were stabbed to death on opposite sides of the N2 in George on Sunday - one in Thembalethu and the other in Lawaaikamp.
The attack in Lawaaikamp happened in Willie Schaap Street, the second murder in this street this year.
A 29-year-old security guard at a popular Tshisanyama (a venue for barbeques) was stabbed to death at the venue in the early hours of Sunday morning 2 June. According to the Conville Police a 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder. It is alleged that the suspect wanted to enter the premises at 01:30, but refused to be searched.
An argument broke out, during which the suspect stabbed the guard in the chest. The victim ran into the main house of the Tshisanyama where he collapsed. The man was declared dead on the scene. The murder suspect was due to appear in the George Magistrate's Court this week.
This murder follows just three months after the body of an unknown man was found near the same Tshisanyama in Willie Schaap Street on Friday 29 March. He was stabbed multiple times. In Thembalethu, 20-year-old Siphosethu Cetywayo was stabbed and killed in Ngcakani Street, Zone 4 on Sunday at 18:00.
According to Captain Dumile Gwavu, Thembalethu Police communications officer, Cetywayo was on his way home with a friend when a group of men approached them and Cetywayo was stabbed in the chest. He died on the scene. No one has been arrested. Gwavu requested anyone with information to contact Constable Luthando Jantjie of the Thembalethu Detectives on 078 298 1904.
Child protection week
Two suspects were arrested on 29 April in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old boy who was killed in Thembalethu in April. It is believed the suspects, aged 17 and 18, stabbed the victim to death following an argument the previous day. Launching Child Protection Week (2 to 9 June), Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, said the high level of violence in schools is the result of the glorification of gangsterism in society. She said families and communities need to play a more prominent role in teaching children values at home. Zulu spoke following the arrest of a 19-year-old Forest Hill High School learner for allegedly stabbing a 16-year-old learner to death outside the school in southern Johannesburg on Monday.
