GEORGE NEWS - Fifteen vulnerable parents were given an opportunity to strengthen their parenting skills and rebuild family connections during a recent three-day Parent Training Programme hosted by George Municipality in partnership with Kidstop.
The programme, aimed specifically at parents currently living on the streets, focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge and life skills to help create healthier family environments.
Over the three days, attendees took part in sessions covering a range of topics including the rights and responsibilities of both children and parents, budgeting and financial planning, different parenting styles, and the importance of self-care.
Discussions also explored the role of fathers in family life and highlighted the risks associated with substance use during pregnancy.
According to the Municipality, the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to social development and supporting vulnerable members of the community.
The training aimed not only to build parenting knowledge, but also to raise awareness around responsible parenting, strengthen relationships and encourage family unity.
Participants also had the opportunity to engage with municipal officials during the programme. Acting Director of Community Services at the time, Sivuyile Mtila, spent time interacting with the group and encouraged them to remain committed to building stable and supportive family structures.
