Update
GEORGE NEWS - 21 Suspects appeared in the George Magistrates' Court today, Friday 22 June, after they were arrested in connection with the violent protest on Wednesday that left a trail of destruction along Nelson Mandela Boulevard, from Thembalethu to Borcherds.
The suspects, which included one woman, were supported by a few community members outside the court who demanded their immediate release. They appeared in court in two groups; the first group had 8 men and 1 woman, the second group had 12 men. Among the men were foreign nationals.
Magistrate Phillip Mgwebile postponed the case of the first group to Tuesday 26 June and the other group to Wednesday 27 June.
It was heard in court that the reason for the postponement is to give the investigation officer time to verify the suspects' addresses and to check if they don’t have previous criminal records.
