GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Police and law enforcement officers are still on the scene monitoring the situation in Thembalethu and Lawaaikamp.
Due to the ongoing rioting, the N2 is currently closed at the Pacaltsdorp bridge interchange area.
Motorists are advised to travel into George via the Airport Road.
Travelling to George from Knysna, the N2 is open past the Garden Route Mall into George CBD. The N2 is closed further along, shortly after the offramp, and motorists wanting to travel from Knysna past George will have to divert via the CBD to get back onto the N2.
The section of the N2 that is currently closed is in the process of being cleared by George Municipal Fire Brigade of debris and tyres. There are also two cargo trucks that were burnt which need to be removed.
Access into Thembalethu is only open to pedestrians at the moment. Municipal offices in Thembalethu, the Thusong Centre, Area Office, Library and Tourism office are currently closed.
Refuse removal in George has been hampered as a number of municipal workers were unable to get to work today.
The GO GEORGE bus service has been affected as well with routes 3 Blanco Community, 13 City Loop, 61 Pacaltsdorp Community via Syferfontein and 58 Heather Park not operational due to a shortage of drivers unable to get to work from Thembalethu area.
