GEORGE NEWS - It took them nearly two hours, but they were not leaving Goldie next to the road.
Colleen Smith and Marlene Mennie of Oudtshoorn Dogs in Need (Odin) went to Oudtshoorn for a meeting on Monday morning, 6 March. The meeting however didn’t pan out and their day didn’t quite turn out the way they planned.
On their way back from Oudtshoorn to George they received a call from a lady named Hanneke who told them about a dog that has been running around near the hairpin bend on the N12 between George and Oudtshoorn.
Various attempts have been made to catch the dog over the weekend, but to no avail.
Arriving near the hairpin bend, they saw the dog and quickly realised that she was terrified and catching her wasn’t going to be an easy task.
But everything comes to him who waits and hours later, with the help of many people who stopped next to the road to assist, Goldie was eventually chased into a culvert.
The helpers closed the other end of the culvert with branches and rocks before one of the volunteers crawled in to where he could reach Goldie and bring her out to safety.
Goldie finally caught and on her way to safety.
Odin’s Marlene Mennie even scratched in the bins to see if she can find something tasty to lure Goldie with.
The other end of the culvert was closed up with branches and rocks.
