GEORGE NEWS - Residents of Apple Street in Heather Park have a lovely little park in their midst, but it has not been maintained properly. They say that complaints reported to the George Municipality do not always have the desired effect.
Among others, they wanted invasive plants to be removed, the grass to be cut properly, overgrown beds tidied, a potentially dangerous loose branch removed from a tree, and an old wooden pergola removed.
Deon Carstens, one of the residents, said their complaints are mostly not addressed.
Upon receipt of an enquiry from George Herald, Parks and Recreation manager Nosidima Vumindaba sent out a team on Friday to investigate the complaint.
She said the team and contractor cut the grass properly, all alien vegetation was cleared, the garden beds and other plants around the pergola tidied and the loose branch removed.
"It must be noted that the lantana and ferns look like they were landscaped for ornamental purposes, however they were removed as per a request received (from residents) on Monday 28 November.
"A decision must still be taken with regard to the salvaging or removal of the wooden pergola. Parks and Recreation cannot find any records of this complaint being reported prior to receiving the inquiry via the George Herald," said Vumindaba.
She asked the public to please submit such complaints on 044 802 2900 or gmun@george.gov.za.
