GEORGE NEWS - People Against Substance Abuse (Pasa) in George is about to embark on its annual substance abuse prevention campaign. This year they aim to reach all of the 71 schools they identified in George, Mossel Bay, Great Brak River and Knysna.
"We can potentially reach more than 21 700 learners from Grades 6 to 9. We talk to learners about key issues like how society, self image, boredom, their reality, rebelliousness and peer pressure can influence the choices they make in life," says Pasa's founder, Freddy Trout.
Bullying and sexual abuse are other topics of discussion and this year the list also includes human trafficking.
"We will also try to give each learner an information booklet that contains everything we talk about in these sessions. To reach this goal, we will need funds to be able to print them. We therefore appeal to the public for assistance by sponsoring learners at only R10 per learner. Or they can buy a sticker for only R10 or a bumper sticker for R20," says Trout.
Business owners in and around George are also invited to get on board by buying stickers to support the fight against substance abuse in George.
