GEORGE NEWS - Nineteen-year-old Savannah de Jongh will showcase her dance production, Soul, at the George Arts Theatre on 8 and 9 November.
Soul embodies the struggle, joy, and spiritual growth of the human experience with and without God.
She will be accompanied on stage by other top local dancers, including some from Cloud 9 Dance Company and Bradley Zeelie with his dancers.
A former York High learner, Savannah has been dancing since the age of six.
She was part of Linda Johnson's dance department at school, and was taught through Elvinia's Dance Academy in George.
"Dance has always been my biggest passion and I am trusting the Lord with my journey of dance ministry," says Savannah.
"In a biblical context, the term 'soul' refers to the physical existence of a person, their mind, emotions, and spirit. It signifies a deep connection to God and the purpose of life.
"The dancers explore the themes of creation, sin, redemption, and the overall search for meaning. This production will hopefully fund the next steps in my dance journey."
Dance teacher Elvinia Manuel is tremendously proud of her student. "She is an all-rounded talented dancer who recently won the best overall dancer award at the Gold Talent performing arts competition in Johannesburg, while creating a full dance work in putting together the Soul production," she says.
"The contemporary dance choreography she did for Soul is mesmerising. Collaborations with some of the best dancers in George will produce a high-quality dancing show."
