GEORGE NEWS - The George area is currently being blasted by strong Northerly winds, which has also resulted in the higher temperatures, and will see the fire departments on the lookout for any signs of fires.
Nature has her way of showcasing the signs of the winds, and can be seen in these images taken by Jeff Ayliffe of Group Editors.
In the ocean images, the strong off-shore winds cause a spectacular rooster-tail of spray to be blown up off the crest of the waves, whilst in the sky above the Outeniques, we can see these rare wave-like cloud formations.
These clouds are called Kelvin-Helmholtz clouds, named after Hermann von Helmholtz and William Thomson, Lord Kelvin, physicists who studied turbulent airflow.

They occur when two different layers of air in our atmosphere are moving at different speeds (a phenomenon known as shear). When the upper layer of air is moving at a higher speed than the lower-level air, it may scoop the top of an existing cloud layer into these wave-like rolling shapes.
