GEORGE NEWS - A locally based organisation, Social Empowerment for Economic Development (Seed), recently received consultative status from the Economic Social Council in the United Nations.

The organisation was founded to facilitate on the issues of women, youth and children.

The CEO, Richard Iga, says Seed registered its South African branch in 2014 as a non-profit organisation and applied for consultative status in 2017. Early this year they received a letter from the council and now, months later, they can proudly say this status was finally granted.

Iga was one of the founding members of Seed in Uganda, Kampala in 2013, but moved to South Africa were he has been living for the past 22 years.

He is a bishop of Miracle Christian ministries here in George.

He said through Seed many young people have realised their dreams. "Women in poor communities have regained their self-respect through our programme of empowerment. We all need a positive mindset and have to join forces for the betterment of our people."

Iga said they have managed to get this far with the support of their stakeholders who stood with them through the hard times.

"We are so glad that we can share this news with you. Your support has not been in vain, and has meant a great deal to a good cause and has helped us achieve so much."
