GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Locals had the opportunity to get a glimpse of the rich cultural heritage of the !XUN during a fund-raising event on the lawn of Denneberghof Private Estate in Kaaimans Valley on Sunday 30 January.
The event was held after the second annual #Indigiwalk to #savethesan from Knysna to Wilderness.
Sunday afternoon was laced with musical and dance performances from !XUN from Platfontein (near Kimberley) and local singer and songwriter Shomon.
The #savethesan campaign raises awareness about the living conditions of the San communities, including the !XUN of Platfontein in the Northern Cape and the San of the Omaheke region of Namibia.
According to the CEO of IYX (Indigenous Youth Exchange) Africa, Craige Q7 Beckett, the reintroduction of Southern Africa natives should be a priority. "The idea is to assist them through fundraising with the development of an agricultural hub and youth development," he said.
