GEORGE NEWS - The Department of Mobility’s Road Safety Management came together with members of the George community and several law enforcement agencies for a road safety awareness march through the streets of Thembalethu on Saturday 9 August.
The event aimed to raise awareness about responsible road use and to promote life-saving behaviour among motorists and pedestrians.
Participants of all ages, from energetic children to experienced traffic officers, walked side by side, holding placards with vital safety messages warning motorists not to text and drive, and to stop and rest if they’re tired, and for pedestrians to always wear bright colours when they walk in the dark.
The march was accompanied by law enforcement vehicles, ensuring visibility and reinforcing the importance of road safety.
This collaborative initiative was spearheaded by the Western Cape Government in partnership with Provincial Traffic Law Enforcement and Land Transport.
“Our roads belong to all of us, and it’s our shared responsibility to make them safer,” said Sivuyisiwe Ngongo, Road Safety Officer in the Eden District. He added that community-led awareness drives are a powerful tool in changing behaviour and saving lives.
