GEORGE NEWS - Most of the suspects who were arrested following last week's violent protest were released on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 June by the George Magistrate's Court.
Nineteen suspects, who appeared in two separate groups in court, with one woman among them, were released on warning pending further investigation.
Two suspects were kept in custody as they have previous ongoing cases. The first group of suspects will appear in court again on 14 August and the second group on 9 July.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, SAnews.gov.za reported that Transport Minister Blade Nzimande has called on protest organisers to make use of government channels to air their grievances and desist from damaging property.

His call comes amid various protests across the country that left several roads blockaded, public and private property torched, traffic was disrupted and trucks set alight.
"I want to reiterate the government call that any legitimate concern that communities have should be raised in a non-violent manner and in line with the laws of our country. Any criminal acts in the form of violence, destruction of state and private property, looting and the blockading of roads under the pretext of service delivery protests will not be tolerated," said Nzimande.
The George Municipality is cleaning up burned tyres at the Fourways intersection in Thembalethu following the protests.
"Any person who blocks roads conducts a criminal act and will be charged and prosecuted." He said these acts are typical of sabotage, disdain, and criminality and remain condemned. "I remain grateful to the law enforcement agencies and emergency services for their swift response in restoring peace and stability in all the areas affected by these protests," he said.
