GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The rescue of a mother and daughter offshore at Nature's Valley on Tuesday 24 September again highlighted the significant role the NSRI's safety App (SafeTrx) plays in emergencies.
The two had been swept off their surf ski in the waves.
The app can be downloaded from both Android and Apple devices and allows the user to enter a planned route and approximate time of arrival.
Should there be a delay, or a user is late at a destination, it sends a message to the NSRI's emergency operations centre.
The app also has a panic button feature that sends out a distress call with the current position.
App features
• An emergency call button which allows you to quickly make a distress call from the application
• Share your real-time track with family and friends during your trip
• Boaters can build and maintain their pre-launch safety checklist
• The app alerts individual emergency contacts for each trip
• It automatically initiates a search process should you not close your trip before your chosen ETA
In addition, when an emergency contact calls the NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) - 087 094 9774 - concerning your being late, they will have access to your location and SafeTrx Trip data through a secure SafeTrx server. The app interface.
