GEORGE NEWS - A social media lover and activist had a rough night's sleep when he was blocked from George Municipality's Twitter account.
Hein Scheepers, a well-known social activist and member of the EFF party in George, got into trouble when he tagged the municipality in three personal tweets during registration weekend.
The matter has since been resolved. Scheepers agreed not to tag the municipal twitter account in any activities relating to politics, and was accordingly unblocked.
"I have been a fan of the municipal twitter, I am one of the few residents that like and retweet our city's tweets. It is unfortunate that the communications desk did not warn or request me to stop mentioning prior to being blocked," said Scheepers.
He said it was never his intention to irritate anyone, and that he felt denied of a public service during his time in the naughty corner.
Municipal spokesperson Chantel Edwards-Klose said their twitter account and all other social media platforms used by the municipality are not in any way or form political and only deal with administrative matters.
The policy applicable to all of the municipal social media platforms are as follows: "No defamatory language, hate speech or posts causing hate speech, racist, crude or provoking comments, political posts, trolling of someone's posts, fake profiles, nudity, illegal activities, contravening any social media rules or advertising will be allowed on this page.
"The admins reserve the right to remove any such posts and repeat offenders will be removed from the page."
