GEORGE NEWS - The Southern Cape Police's spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, confirmed that the George detectives are investigating a common assault case in which a 10-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted by his mother on Sunday 25 January.
The boy reported the incident to his father, who alerted the police. His 30-year-old mother was arrested and is due to appear in court.
The identities of the suspect and her family members have not been disclosed to protect the minor.
Sources close to the investigation said this was not the first incident, and claim that the suspect shows a pattern of violence towards her children.
Following the alleged assault, the family sought a protection order for the boy, to ensure visitations are supervised.
The boy's father described the incident as the last straw. He expressed regret for not taking earlier action to protect his children and urged parents not to wait until violence escalates.

In the article, "GBV a national crisis - help is available" which can be found on the George Herald website, Selome Bennie, a victim empowerment social worker of Famsa George (Families South Africa), noted that domestic violence often follows a repeating cycle and cautioned that once a clear pattern develops, hope alone will not stop it.
South Africa remains one of the most violent countries in the world, with children disproportionately affected. An estimated 28 children are violently attacked daily, highlighting the urgent need for awareness and intervention.
