Update
GEORGE NEWS - The 2-year-old boy from Rosemoor, whose penis was nearly severed by his mother’s partner on Thursday 21 December, will be returning home to George tomorrow, Wednesday 3 January.
A social worker who spoke to the George Herald on condition of anonymity said, “We have just received documentation from the Red Cross Children’s Hospital stating he will be discharged tomorrow. The organisation has opened a file for the little boy and we will conclude our initial investigation tomorrow.
"At this stage we do not want to comment on his medical condition as we have not seen him yet.”
Southern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, confirmed that a blood-stained pair of scissors was found at the scene of the crime: “The suspect, in his 30s, tried to run from the scene but was arrested.”
The mother of the toddler woke up when she heard her child screaming. He was asleep on his bed at the time of the incident.
An ambulance drove him to the Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town after midnight. It is believed that the emergency helicopter could not be used due to weather conditions.
The accused appeared in the Thembalethu Magistrate's Court on a charge of attempted murder on Wednesday 27 December. The case was remanded until tomorrow, Wednesday 3 January, for a bail application and further investigation.
