GEORGE NEWS - A jogger from Delville Park, Rashied Adams, says he is eternally thankful to a municipal official who assisted him after he was attacked and robbed while jogging in Pacaltsdorp recently.
"It was approximately 11:30 in the morning. I was jogging in Olympic Drive on Wednesday morning, 3 June, as part of my daily routine when I was confronted by six men outside the Pacaltsdorp rugby stadium.
"Four of them pulled out knives and demanded money while holding a knife to my shoulder. When I couldn't give them money they took my cellphone and ran off," he said. "One of the stadium's gates were open and I went inside to look for help."
It was then that municipal official Francois Lombard, who was at the stadium by chance, rushed to assist Adams. "I went to pick up something when I saw Rashied. He obviously needed help and I didn't hesitate. We climbed into my vehicle and gave chase.
"We chased the suspects all the way to Rosedale where the police later arrested some of them. It feels good to be able to help someone. Let's just call it my good deed for the day," said Lombard.

Along the way five young men from the area joined the chase into the Rosedale informal settlement where they managed to find police officers who were already patrolling in the area. It wasn't too long before two of the six suspects were arrested.
"I was sent home by the police officers and about an hour later they phoned back to tell me they managed to arrest two of the suspects. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr Lombard, the five young men and the Pacaltsdorp police officers who assisted me so swiftly and bravely.
"If I can give other joggers, walkers or cyclists any advice, it would be to be vigilant at all times. Take routes that are busy with traffic. Unfortunately the lockdown has forced some people to turn to crime in order to survive," said Adams.
